For Div and Ryan, a destination wedding was always part of the plan. While they initially considered Spain or Portugal, logistical challenges led them to explore other options. “After researching LGBTQ+ friendly destinations, Costa Rica consistently came up as a top choice,” the couple shares. Once they visited, met their planner, and saw the country’s breathtaking scenery, they knew they had found the perfect place for their Indian fusion wedding in Costa Rica.
With the help of their wedding planners at Tropical Occasions, Div and Ryan found their dream location at Hacienda Pinilla. “It embodied all the things that make Costa Rica so magical—natural beauty, a serene beach, gorgeous sunsets, and the charm of local furnishings and architecture.”
For their pre-wedding celebrations, they hosted guests at Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas, where they also held their vibrant Haldi and Sangeet festivities. “We wanted our guests to stay together in a small luxury hotel instead of having to rent separate villas, and Cala Luna was the perfect fit,” the grooms say.
Div and Ryan beautifully blended their Indian and American cultures throughout the wedding weekend. “The Haldi ceremony kicked things off with a fun twist—we turned it into a Holi Party on the beach! Everyone got into the spirit by throwing colorful powders around,” Div recalls. The Sangeet was another highlight, with loved ones performing energetic dances before the big day.
On their wedding day, the couple made a grand entrance with two baraats, each accompanied by lively music and dancing. Their ceremony incorporated both Western and Indian traditions, officiated by their best friend Matt. “Along with exchanging rings, we also exchanged garlands, a meaningful Hindu tradition.”
Welcome bags included Turkish beach towels, locally sourced Costa Rican coffee, fans, and recovery kits. The Sangeet décor featured Moroccan lamps from India, and guests received embroidered purses filled with henna tattoos and jewelry. Even their cocktail napkins paid tribute to their beloved dog, Juno, with the phrase ‘Drinks on me!’
Food was another important element of their Indian fusion wedding in Costa Rica. “We wanted to incorporate Indian cuisine, and our planner connected us with an amazing local caterer who set up a live bread station—it was a huge hit with our guests.”
Div and Ryan emphasizes the importance of working with experienced local vendors. “Having a planner like Karen [Tropical Occasions] was invaluable. She guided us through the pros and cons of different locations and helped us manage expectations along the way.”
They also ensured their guests felt included and comfortable. “We provided all the necessary details on our wedding website and through a Hit Em Up text chain. Staying in a boutique hotel together also created a sense of community. The Holi party and Sangeet dance practices became great bonding experiences.”
Reflecting on their whirlwind weekend, Div and Ryan wouldn’t change a thing—except maybe the weather. “We didn’t anticipate how hot it would be in early April. If we could change anything, we might have chosen a slightly cooler time of year. But honestly, even with the heat, it was still perfect.”
From their picturesque beachfront venue to their joyful, culture-rich celebrations, Div and Ryan’s Costa Rica destination beautifully reflected the beginning of “forever” for the couple!
