“Happiness Is” and “Couldn’t Be Better” are two quotes engraved on Mimi and Dave’s wedding bands, each a quote from the couples’ grandmothers. The quotes are a perfect representation of their special day, a destination wedding in South Carolina.
His entire life, the groom had been going to the DeBordieu Club in South Carolina, so when the time came to pick a venue it was the natural choice. The idea of bringing their friends and family together from all across the U.S. to spend the weekend in beach houses appealed to the couple.
According to Mimi, the most difficult part of the destination wedding was planning from afar. She highlighted the importance of hiring a wedding planner in the area who is familiar with the location.
Overall, putting the details together prior to the wedding went smoothly. Mimi said she and Dave were familiar with the area, which made planning easier.
Mimi helped her guests with accommodations, encouraging them to rent houses on DeBordieu, but also offering several hotel options. The couple felt strongly that having their guests stay at DeBordieu would be more enjoyable for everyone.
When the big day finally came, everything pulled together perfectly – which Mimi contributed to preparation and being clear on the phone. The couple says the wedding didn’t cost much more than a hometown wedding would have been, other than the cost of traveling to South Carolina for planning.
Mimi says having everyone all in one place for an entire weekend made their wedding extra-special. They were all able to step away from their everyday life and enjoy the moment. More than that, Mimi advises couples to enjoy the process and have fun.
